ACER ICONIA SMART: A POCKET CINEMA?

A few years ago manufacturers try to make phones as small as possible. Time has changed today people are requesting bigger phones with a nice large screen, that is suitable for searching the web and watch a movie.

Sony Ericsson has the Xperia Arc with a 4.2 "model, HTC has built a 4.3" screen in the Desire HD and Samsung has announched for the United States, a 4.5" device. But the greatest of them all is , at least so far, from Acer: the Iconia Smart has a screen diameter of 4.8".

The problem with a 4.8" screen is that is fairly wide for the average pocket. That's the reason why Acer has chosen an aspect ratio of 21:9, the same as which movies are recorded and also the same ratio as the Cinema Philips TVs.

Both the 4.8" screen as the ratio of 21:9 are not uncommon in the telecommunications market. LG presented last year at CES a prototype of a smartphone with an Intel Moorestown processor and a 4.8" screen. This Moblin-smartphone disappeared soon back of LG's roadmap, as Intel and Nokia on MeeGo switched. Before that LG already released the BL-40, with a 21:9 screen with a diagonal of 4".
